About
This office of TradesNL seeks to create new employment opportunities for Indigenous apprentices and journeypersons, increase apprenticeship completion rates, and foster greater commitment and participation of employers and unions to create employment opportunities, overcome barriers and enhance supports in the workplace. The Labrador Office for Indigenous and Northern Skilled Trades works with indigenous apprentices (and Journeypersons) to assist them in finding employment opportunities with the ultimate goal of achieving journeyperson status. We have partnerships with employers, unions, government and training institutions to assist in accomplishing these goals through overcoming barriers and enhancing supports in the workplace. We have a registry database of Indigenous Tradespersons which identifies trade, level of apprenticeship, employment status, resumes, travel availability, etc. We also facilitate access to a Wage Subsidy Program through Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, NL to assist employers with the cost associated with hiring apprentices. The Office is dedicated to ensuring that there are employment opportunities for Indigenous apprentices. The identification of these Indigenous tradespersons is a critical step in that process.
