About
Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) is a Youth Mentoring organization that activates 'The Power of Three: The Family, the Organization and the Mentor" to ignite the power and potential of young people through fostering Developmental Relationships. Our mentoring programs enable life-changing relationships for young people ages 6-18 who face adversity and can benefit from a supportive Developmental Relationship (a close connection through which young people discover who they are, cultivate abilities to shape their own lives and learn how to engage with and contribute to the world around them). Developmental Relationships play a transformative role for young people by providing support, recognizing potential and empowering their success. We know that adversity looks different for every young person, and so our mentoring programs are trauma informed, designed to meet participants where they are, and are tailored to their specific interests, needs and requests. We use a strengths-based approach from intake to match closure, focusing on positive outcomes and learning.
We offer 1:1 mentoring both in the community (Bigs & Littles) and in the local school system (In-School Mentoring). We also offer group mentoring programs that focus on the benefits of leading a healthy, active life with an emphasis on healthy eating, physical activity and mental wellness. All of our programs are cost-free for participants. Each year we match over 400 young people in mentoring relationships and we continue to evaluate our programs to ensure they are evolving with the needs of young people, enabling us to achieve measurable outcomes.
